INESC P&D Brasil project wants to improve autonomy of persons with reduced mobility

INESC P&D Brasil has recently submitted a project application where the goal is to develop a vehicle capable of increasing the autonomy of persons with reduced mobility or severe physical disabilities.

In this project, the INESC P&D Brasil plans to join other researchers at INESC TEC who are already experienced in the development of motorised wheelchairs, and promote knowledge sharing in this area. The vehicle, based on a motorised wheelchair, will feature robotic technology that will allow users to avoid obstacles, and include an innovative design that best adapts to the user. This vehicle may be used in internal and external environments (even in adverse climate conditions).

This application has been submitted to the “Viver sem Limite” programme, of the  FINEP funding entity, whose goal is to provide support to research, technological development and innovation projects that aim to promote the independence, autonomy, social inclusion, and to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities, senior citizens, and people with reduced mobility, in urban and rural areas. The results of the applications will be announced in March 2016.
