INESC TEC creates safest photo app on the market
The safest photo app on the market is Portuguese and has been developed by researchers from INESC TEC’s High Assurance Software Laboratory (HASLab). SafeCloud Photos was launched on HASLab’s Open Day, on 8 September, can now be downloaded on Play Store (for Android) and on App Store (for iOS).

INESC TEC has developed two robotic platforms for research in various aspects of precision agriculture, particularly for fighting pests and diseases in agriculture in a more economical and ecological way.

INESC TEC tool improves surgery planning for patients with breast cancer
INESC TEC’s Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) is participating in project BCCT.plan, in partnership with the Champalimaud Foundation and ENERMETER. The goal with this projects is to develop a surgical planning tool to be used by medical teams, and help them to explore different surgical treatment strategies and offer personalised treatment. The project starts in November 2016 and has a duration of three years.

European project CoherentPaaS comes to an end
European project CoherentPaaS (Coherent and Rich PaaS with the Common Programming Model), where INESC TEC’s High-Assurance Software Laboratory (HASLab) is partner, was concluded in October. According to the final evaluation of the European Commission, held in Madrid, the results were “very positive”, the team achieved the objectives outlined and did “excellent technical work”.

INESC TEC starts two more software engineering projects
INESC TEC’s High-Assurance Software Laboratory (HASLab) started two new software engineering projects, TRUST and DaLí. The projects, which started on 19 and 20 September at the University of Minho, have secured a total of 250 thousand euros of funding.

INESC TEC in COST Action on atmospheric electricity
INESC TEC’s Centre for Information Systems and Computer Graphics (CSIG) is involved in a COST Action on atmospheric electricity, a multi-disciplinary subject that deals with the electric field of the Earth's atmosphere and how this influences the Earth and biological systems. The COST Action kicked off on 4 October and is expected to last four years.

INESC TEC’s Centre for Industrial Engineering and Management (CEGI) is involved in a COST-Action project entitled “Rationing - MISSED CARE: An international and multidimensional problem”, where the goal is to promote discussion about the rationing of nursing care. The project was launched on September 20 in Brussels.

Two projects led by INESC TEC researchers received the “Digital Inclusion and Literacy Award”, sponsored by the Portuguese funding agency Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT). The award ceremony was held on 13 September at the Lisbon Academy of Sciences.

Doctoral thesis developed at INESC TEC awarded in Brazil
Vinicius Souza of the Institute of Mathematics and Computer Sciences, University of São Paulo (ICMC-USP), has received the "Best PhD Thesis" award for work conducted at INESC TEC. He was awarded as part of a competition which awards the best theses and dissertations in Artificial Intelligence and Computer Science (CTDIAC).

The call for papers is now open for the conference xCoAx - Computation, Communication, Aesthetics, and X, an event organised by INESC TEC’s Centre for Information Systems and Computer Graphics (CSIG), which will take place in July 2017 at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Lisbon. The deadline for submission of papers is 29 January 2017.
