Where are you now?
Every month INESC TEC sends highly qualified individuals into the market. These individuals often then go on to occupy important positions in some of the best national and international companies or they opt to form spin-offs. As the best way to perform technology transfer is through individuals, this section is dedicated to collaborators that trained at INESC TEC and now star in other companies and institutions.

Explain your experience since leaving INESC TEC
In March 2017, I left INESC TEC to start a new scientific challenge in Canada. This opportunity was possible through the recently created IVADO fellowships with which my research proposal was awarded.
In this way, I started to work in Polytehcnique Montreal, located in the UdeM campus, north of Montreal city centre. The Polytechnique is divided in different engineering departments. I work in the team “Canada Excellence Research Chair in Data Science for Real-Time Decision-Making” which is in the department of mathematics and industrial engineering.
We live in a time of fast technological development allowing the massive collection of data and respective analysis. The goal of our team is to contribute in the field of decision making through the combination of Machine Learning and Mathematical Optimization fields. Thus, following my research line in INESC TEC, essentially, my work involves the minimization of kidney transplantation losses opportunities in the context of the Canadian health-care system. To that end, we use patient, donors and transplantation data-sets to train Machine Learning models. This will allow the prediction of a kidney graft quality and a posterior integration of this qualitative information in the optimal planning.
In your opinion how did your time at INESC TEC help you in your new role?
INESC TEC was fundamental in my new role, mainly, due to two reasons: the scientific training and in building my networking. In 2014, I was included in the project KEP and, afterwards, in its continuation, project mKEP. Thanks to these projects I deepen my expertise in the planning of kidney transplantations. Furthermore, it was also thanks to my activity in INESC TEC that I had the contact with international researchers with whom I continue to collaborate.
In your opinion, how has INESC TEC changed since you left?
Since I recently left INESC TEC and that I keep in touch with its current collaborators, it is hard for me to notice significant changes.
I continue to have a strong opinion about the excellent and innovative research that takes place in INESC TEC.
