History of the relationship between the company and INESC TEC

INESC TEC was a partner of AMP in the preparation of the Elaboration of the Integrated Strategy for Territorial Development (EIDT), namely on the goals and priorities of the information systems area. Afterwards, along with AMP, INESC TEC monitored the development of its Geographical Information Systems (SIG).

Statement about the projects

INESC TEC collaborated in the definition of the AMP strategy within the framework of the projects to be implemented in the information systems area, both at a municipal and metropolitan level.

The Porto Metropolitan Area developed a project entitled ‘SIG Metropolitano da AMP’ (Sig Metropolitan of AMP in English) which focused on adapting the SIG systems of each municipality, implementing and ensuring the criteria and interoperability according to the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standards and the Infrastructure for Spatial Information in Europe (INSPIRE) directive. This project aimed at updating the management of municipalities, through the effectiveness and efficiency gains.

The goals of the project were:

  1. To enable the AMP and its municipalities to have interoperable information, in order to allow interconnection with the SIG Metropolitan of AMP according to the INSPIRE directive, so that the coordination and development of inter-municipal projects with a strong territorial impact are made possible;
  2. To give AMP (and the municipalities that are part of it) an authorized ortophotomaps system in order to build an inter-municipal system;
  3. To create a pioneer system at an inter-municipal level, using the ortophotomaps and the information available in a standardised form while using real-time interoperability for each one of the municipalities.

The AMP has initiated an inter-municipal working process that has been very productive and useful.

INESC TEC supported the AMP in the definition and implementation of the projects, showing knowledge, proactivity and interest in the mentioned areas. 

In the future, the AMP knows that it can rely on the INESC TEC’s team for its projects and for its support in the different stages and areas.
