INESC TEC team contributes to the publication of “The MANTIS Book”

The book “The MANTIS Book - Cyber Physical System Based Proactive Collaborative Maintenance” was published in January 2019 with the results of the MANTIS project, which had INESC TEC's Centre for Enterprise Systems Engineering (CESE) as one of its partners and that ended in September 2018.

The MANTIS Book aims to highlight the fundamentals inherent to the conceptual ideas related to the predictive maintenance, its economic impact and technical solutions. The ambition of the project has been to support the implementation of the predictive maintenance in the companies, a process that includes a reference architecture that supports the maintenance data life cycle, in order to enable the use of new kinds of maintenance strategies for industrial machinery. The key enabler has been the perfect blend of data collection through cybernetic physical systems and the use of machine learning and advanced visualisation techniques for its monitoring.

The topics discussed include, in the context of maintenance, Cyber-Physical Systems, Communication Middleware, Machine Learning, Advanced Visualisation, Business Models, Future Trends. Another focus of the book is the application of the techniques in the real-world context, as well as all the work conducted by the pilots, all of them focused on several industries, such as the energy production, heavy vehicles, medical equipment and manufacturing machines.

The CESE team contributed with the chapters 5 and 7 and the authors are Catarina Félix, Cláudio Sá, Hugo Ferreira and Carlos Soares.
