The relentless quest for scientific excellence
INESC Porto’s intervention in the industry and companies, its relevant scientific production and the quality of its human resources were some of the points that were considered on the last evaluation carried by the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB). Following the motto “From Knowledge Production to Knowledge Valorisation”, INESC Porto is on the right track to continue its success. However, SAB recommends that INESC Porto defines more a concrete vision, mission and goals for the institution over the next years. After the visit that took place in 2006, last October, this international Board of experts sought to get to know the work developed by the six R&D Units and by the two autonomous groups that are an integrant part of INESC Porto LA (Associated Laboratory).

An international board of experts whose merit is acknowledged worldwide in INESC Porto’s six areas of intervention analysedINESC Porto's Activity Report 2003-2007 on 27 and 28 October. The aim is to advise INESC Porto’s different units after an assessment of the institution’s path and, at the same time, collaborate in the definition of a medium and long-term strategy.

UESP organises conference on innovative management practices
The city of Porto welcomed ERIMA’08 – European Symposium on Innovative Management Practices. The event took place at the Hotel Porto Palácio on 6 and 7 November. Jorge Pinho de Sousa, coordinator of INESC Porto’s Manufacturing Systems Engineering Unit (UESP), together with Jéremy Legardeur of ESTIA – École d’Ingenieurs, were chairmen of this event dedicated to Innovation and Business Management. INESC Porto was responsible for the organisation of the event.
