Serious Thinking

" I have to admit that in the beginning, I felt like an odd duck. I did not understand the terminology used and the dynamics was pretty different from what I was used to. I was used to talking about 'emotions', 'feelings' and 'behaviours', as opposed to 'systems', 'networks', 'algorithms'…", Susana Barbosa, C-BER

Where are you now?

Every month INESC TEC sends highly qualified individuals into the market. These individuals often then go on to occupy important positions in some of the best national and international companies or they opt to form spin-offs. As the best way to perform technology transfer is through individuals, this section is dedicated to collaborators that trained at INESC TEC and now star in other companies and institutions.

I am currently working as a lecturer in the British University in Egypt. I have started working there shortly after leaving INESC TEC. There aren't much similarities between the two in terms of the work as I am mainly tasked with teaching undergraduate courses. However, I am also supervising some master's students. I have gained some experience doing this while I was at INESC TEC.

Currently I work for Oracle (American multinational company), more specifically with MySQL, which is the most popular open source data base, and also the most used by the giants like Facebook, Twitter, Google, etc.  Specifying a bit more, my group works with the following components: MySQL Replication, MySQL Group Replication, MySQL Router, MySQL Fabric and MySQL InnoDB Cluster. Basically, these technologies are dedicated to «Fault Tolerance», «Scalability» and «High Availability» of information, all this obtained through replicating exactly the same data in different servers.
