Limelight
Every month, this section will honour a collaborator for an exceptional contribution in his/her area of activity. BIP’s Editors will have the final choice. However, the cooperation of every Unit Coordinator is precious since they will be the ones suggesting which collaborator should be distinguished.
Nádia Silva, C-BER | February
The Coordinators of C-BER (Centre for Biomedical Engineering Research) stated: “Even though she is only starting her PhD in computer science (with a thesis in Computational Neuroimaging), Nádia has been able to bridge the gap between engineering and clinical neurology and intelligence. She is very committed and has obtained exceptional results and an example of that is the publication, in January, of a paper, of which she is the first author, in one of the most important scientific journals in the world in the field of Neurology.”
Hélder Fontes, CTM | February
The Coordinator of CTM (Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia) stated: “We would like to nominate Hélder Fontes for the Limelight section for his exemplary work in European project SUNNY, in particular for the simulation activities and for the preparation of the final demonstration of the communications solution developed as part of the project. The level of excellence of the work, also recognised by the project partners, has contributed decisively to affirm INESC TEC as a relevant partner in the area of aerial wireless networks, which was defined in 2011 as strategic for CTM.”
Paula Rodrigues, HASLab | February
The Coordinator of HASLab (High-Assurance Software Laboratory) stated: “In the three years that Paula Rodrigues has taken over the HASLab communication, she has changed the worldview of HASLab and has also the HASLab views itself. HASLab researchers now feel that there is an effective channel for giving visibility to their R&D activity. The HASLab Coordination currently has at its disposal a set of information gathering processes and analysis of performance indicators that make its management task more efficient and agile. The recent process of collecting indicators for the various activity reports for the year 2016, which took place in January 2017, made these changes evident. Paula’s contribution to all these positive changes in the life of HASLab is unquestionable. In fact, without her work, they probably would have never happened.”
António Barbosa, CPES | March
The Coordinators of CPES (Centre for Power and Energy Systems) stated: “We would like to nominate António Barbosa to be featured in the Limelight section. António is known at INESC TEC for working in another service, but he has decided to embrace a new challenge in the area of energy and is now a member of the GReSBAS project team, where the goal is to develop and implement a Building Energy Management System in both INESC TEC buildings in order to significantly reduce energy costs. António is not trained in energy/automation but he has embraced this new challenge with great responsibility and dedication. He has been very autonomous in the entire installation and commissioning process of the equipment, in addition to his work in database and information management. In order not to cause disruption to the normal functioning of the facilities, he spent several weeks working nights. This dedication is worth noting.”
Bárbara Maia, CG | April
The head of the CG (Management Control service) stated: "I would like to nominate Barbara Maia for the Limelight section particularly for the professionalism, commitment and immense responsibility with which she has followed up the audit of the European Commission to three H2020 projects during the week of March 20-24. These audits are critical because they serve not only to monitor but also to verify that there is a scrupulous compliance with the rules imposed by the European Commission on H2020 funding, which is known to be a key source of funding for INESC TEC.
Bárbara conducted this process in an irreproachable way, planning and organising all the necessary information well in advance, ensuring that everything was properly instructed and reconciling in an exemplary manner all the requests she received with the other daily tasks and the demands of her personal life. For these reasons, I believe that your performance deserves a special mention this month.”
