Underwater robotics of INESC TEC attended a conference in Japan

INESC TEC attended the OCEANS’18 MTS/IEEE Kobe/Techno-Ocean 2018 conference, which was held between 27 and 31 May in Kobe, Japan.

Researchers from INESC TEC’s Centre for Robotics and Autonomous Systems (CRAS) presented four papers at the conference and participated as chairs of three sessions.

Besides the conference and under the STRONGMAR project, INESC TEC was also present in the parallel exhibition with an institutional stand where most of INESC TEC’s active projects on underwater robotics were presented.

The STRONGMAR project, which was created from the collaboration between INESC TEC and the Centre for Technological Research of the University of Algarve (CINTAL) seeks to give scientific, technological and economic training to a Portuguese research group with the collaboration from top-notch external partners such as the Universitt of Girona, University of Aberdeen, Heriot-Watt University and NATO Science & Technology Organization.

In order to fulfil the objectives proposed for this project, several activities are planned, namely summer and winter schools, short-term scientific meetings, long-term scientific visits, scientific and technology transfer workshops, networking meetings, conferences, submission of European projects in collaboration with academic and industry partners or participation in exhibitions and in international conferences.

The OCEANS conference is the main event that is jointly promoted by the IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society and the Marine Technology Society (MTS). It aims to debate topics such as engineering, science and maritime technologies in order to design a future vision about the sustainability of maritime resources.
