INESC TEC's researchers receive Special Mention Award

The paper entitled “GreenHub Farmer: Real-world data for Android Energy Mining”, written by Marco Couto and Rui Pereira, researchers of INESC TEC's High-Assurance Software Laboratory (HASLab) and of the University of Minho, alongside Hugo Matalonga, of the University of Minho, Bruno Cabral and João Paulo Fernandes of the University of Coimbra and of CISUC, Fernando Castor of the Federal University of Pernambuco, Simão Melo de Sousa of the University of Beira Interior and of LISP, was distinguished with the Special Mention Award in the Data Showcase Track of the MSR 2019 conference -  16th International Conference on Mining Software Repositories.

The paper intends to understand how the use of Android, applications, operating systems, hardware and user habits influence the battery lifespan of devices. The methodology of this research is to gather anonymous raw data from devices distributed in several geographic areas around the world, through a mobile application that allows to build and to analyse a set of large-scale data on the daily routine of the user, representing his consumption practices.

It should be noted that this paper was developed under the GreenHub initiative, which was partially funded by project Green Software Lab, which is supported by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).

The MSR 2019 conference took place on 26 and 27 May in Montreal, Canada, and was organised in collaboration with ICSE 2019 - 41st ACM/IEEE International Conference on Software Engineering.

The researchers mentioned in this news piece are associated with INESC TEC and UBI.
