Vítor Santos Costa (CRACS)
The Manager at the Centre for Research in Advanced Computing Systems (CRACS) stated – “Although Vítor Santos Costa is, for some time now, an internationally recognised researcher in part by his remarkable work in the field of logic programming, translated in the leadership of the Yap Prolog system, I must commend the outstanding scientific performance he has achieved during the first half of 2012.
Vítor is the author of five publications in conferences (between July and September) which are highly selective and prestigious, including the "29th International Conference on Machine Learning" (ICML'2012). He also published two articles as part of "The European Conference on Machine Learning and Principles and Practice of Knowledge Discovery in Databases "(ECML-PKDD'2012), the "26th Conference on Artificial Intelligence "(AAAI'2012), the "22nd International Conference on Inductive Logic Programming" (ILP'2012) and two articles in the journal "Theory and Practice of Logic Programming"(TPLP).
Other publications in workshops can also be mentioned, as well as the fact the Vítor Santos Costa was the chair in two scientific committees, including the DAMP'2012 (Declarative Aspects of Multicore Programming and Applications) and the ICLP'2012 (28th International Conference on Logic Programming). Vítor Santos Costa currently managing two FCT [the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology] projects, and the most recent started last March.
I believe that this level of performance is a factor that contributes to INESC TEC’s excellence and of course to the prestige of CRACS and the University of Porto.”
Gustavo Carneiro (UTM)
The Managers at the Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM) stated – “Gustavo Carneiro joined UTM in 2001. He participated in the European projects ARROWS, DAIDALOS I, DAIDALOS II and ALICANTE and in the NSRF projects Wimetronet and SITME, always maintaining an excellent performance and quality image that we commend.
Gustavo also worked on his PhD, which he successfully completed, published 17 papers and obtained 240 + citations on Google Scholar. Simultaneously, Gustavo Carneiro also represented INESC TEC developing an open-source NS3 network simulator, which put INESC TEC in a group of excellence in the simulation of communication networks, along with institutions such as the University of Washington, Georgia Tech and INRIA.
Gustavo will be leaving us this October as he is embarking on a new adventure to England.
