INESC TEC concludes study for the integration of wind park in Portugal

INESC TEC’s Power Systems Unit (USE) has recently concluded a study for the integration of the Alto da Coutada wind park (located between the municipalities of Valpaços and Vila Pouca de Aguiar) in the Portuguese Distribution Grid (Rede Nacional de Transporte – RNT).

The study was ordered by ENERCON GmbH, a well-known manufacturer of wind turbines, which is part of one of the consortiums that won the public tender for installing 1800 MW worth of wind parks in Portugal (the Eólicas de Portugal- ENEOP consortium).

The aim of the study conducted by USE was to demonstrate to the authorities that the wind parks within the ENEOP consortium follow the technical guidelines demanded to the wind parks integrating the national grid.

USE has been maintaining a close collaboration with ENERCOM GmbH since 2007. With the conclusion of this study, the power installed totals about 700 MW. The USE team participating in this project included Bernardo Silva, Carlos Moreira and João Peças Lopes.
