INESC TEC researcher receives Full Scholarship

Ana Rita Ribeiro, a researcher at INESC TEC’s Optoelectronics and Electronic Systems Unit (UOSE), was selected to receive a ThorLabs Full Scholarship to participate in the 6th International Graduate Summer School – Biophotonics '13, which will take place between 8 and 15 June in Sweden. Of 70 registrations accepted, the Portuguese researcher was the only one to receive the scholarship that will cover registration and accommodation costs.

The Portuguese researcher was selected after submitting a paper entitled "Optoelectronic systems for single cell manipulation and analysis". The paper is related to her PhD theme, “Optoelectronic systems for single cell manipulation and analysis”. As part of her doctoral studies, the researcher will develop optoelectronic systems to manipulate and monitor single cells.

Ana Rita Ribeiro is the most recent PhD student at UOSE, supervised Pedro Jorge and Ariel Guerreiro from the same Unit. Her PhD research is being conducted in collaboration with the Portuguese Institute of Chemical and Biological Technology (ITQB) and the Institut de Sciences des Materiaux de Mulhouse - IS2M in France. The researcher is developing her work as part of the most recent FCT (Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology) project at UOSE, entitled INCELL – Optical Fibre Instrumentation to Manipulate and Analyse Cells, led by Pedro Jorge.

This Summer School has been taking place since 2003 and its aim is to provide high-level training in biophotonics.
