INESC TEC joins network of excellence of European laboratories

Following the establishment of the Laboratory of Microgeneration and Electric Vehicles, INESC TEC will be joining the DERlab - European Distributed Energy Resources Laboratories, an association that gathers the most important laboratories and research institutes in the areas of distributed energy resources. INESC TEC is the first Portuguese institution to be part of this network.

The association has been developing technical specifications to operate distributed energy resources in electricity grids, strongly supporting the development of new technologies. The DERlab provides testing and consulting services, supporting and creating the conditions for a change in the electric paradigm where there is a focus on decentralised power systems.

INESC TEC’s Power Systems Unit (USE) has been working for several years in different European and national projects, striving to confirm its expertise. The establishment of a laboratory infrastructure – the Laboratory of Microgeneration and Electric Vehicles, the main result of project REIVE – created the conditions to leverage research on microgeneration and electric vehicles and allowed INESC TEC to become part of this important European association.

It is important to highlight that INESC TEC has a long  track record of collaboration with members of the DERlab as part of the participation in European projects such as the MICROGRIDS, MORE MICROGRIDS, MERGE and SUSTAINABLE, which will now be improved and consolidated.
