"I will dedicate this space in BIP to one of the most challenging projects I ever participated in – the Laboratory of Microgrids and Electric Vehicles.", Clara Gouveia (USE)

Free Nonsense

"I’m asked to write nonsense, which means that my reputation is on a downwards spiral, just as the national GDP. (...) This scam, planned by the Communication Service, may have helped tarnish my image", Mário Couto (USE)

Mário Couto

Mário Couto (USE) – September

The Manager of the Power Systems Unit (USE) stated: “Mário Couto’s dedication and efficiency are remarkable, namely in project CitInES. Where circumstances required, Mário Couto sacrificed plenty of nights and weekends to solve urgent or unexpected problems. For instance, in July it was necessary to design an investment plan to expand the power grid according to the geographic features of city areas (population density, level of construction, etc.). This model was not planned in the DoW (Description of Work), but was deemed essential by the Principal Researcher and by the city representatives. The model was implemented in record time so that it could be included in the results in the last meeting (in the end of July) with the project reviewers.”

José Lino Oliveira

Lino Oliveira (USIG) – October

The Managers of the Information and Computer Graphics Systems Unit (USIG) stated: “We would like to nominate José Lino for this month’s Limelight section. His effort and perseverance were decisive for two projects we have developed with the company TRIEDE TI on environmental management in ports. As a result, we strengthened a partnership for the next few years, worth several hundreds of thousands of Euros.

This joint process lasted over three years and involved application submissions, withdrawals, resubmissions, inadequate assessments, complaints and long negotiations. Countless nights and weekends were spent trying to solve problems and typically the deadlines were very tight, after several month hiatuses. That was quite a ride! And it was thanks to José Lino’s technical and human skills that we managed to complete these projects successfully. And so this nomination is well deserved.”
