GALENO is the name of the new tool that enables a strict and personalised administration of drugs and it was developed by a consortium that includes INESC TEC’s Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support (LIAAD).

INESC TEC starts developing point-to-multipoint system
In January, INESC TEC’s Telecommunications and Multimedia (UTM) started working on the project “HiperWireless: Point-to-Multipoint Microwave Communications using the 17GHz License-free Band”, where the goal is to develop a point-to-multipoint communication system using the 17 GHz band. The system is composed of a base station and a set of client stations, similar to what is found in a 3G/4G network or a Wi-Fi network, for example.

INESC TEC starts project with company EDP Renováveis to detect failures in wind turbines
INESC TEC’s Industrial Engineering and Management Unit (UGEI) is coordinating a project where the goal is to create tools to assess the performance of wind power turbines. The “Reliability Engineering for Wind Turbine Generators” is being developed for the electricity company EDP Renováveis and it involves other INESC TEC Units, more specifically the Power Systems Unit (USE) and the Manufacturing Systems Engineering Unit (UESP).

INESC TEC develops platform that records, annotates and processes videos
A platform to record, annotate and process videos – this is the final result of project ASSIST, developed by INESC TEC’s Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM) for the company InovRetail Lda. The tools created as part of the project are now being tested and validated and they will be applied in the commercial sector.

INESC TEC and the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) are responsible for technically supervising a network of probes that are continuously monitoring the quality of the Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT). This work is part of project ICP-ANACOM. ANACOM is the Portuguese communication regulator.

For the third year in a row, the papers titled “Operations research in healthcare: a survey” and “Understanding attitudes towards public transport and private car: A qualitative study,” written by researchers from INESC TEC’s Industrial Engineering and Management Unit (UGEI), are the most downloaded papers in the journals International Transactions in Operational Research and Transport Policy, respectively.

HASLab/INESC TEC has received a merit award from the North-American company National Instruments (NI). The company awarded HASLab’s for its credible research line and innovative ideas developed in the area of green software computing, which can be applied to NI’s LabView software.

On 18 February, the manager of the recently created Centre for Research in Biomedical Engineering (C-BER) at INESC TEC, Aurélio Campilho, presented the RetinaCAD in a workshop that took place in California, in the United States. The RetinaCAD is a computer assisted medical diagnosis tool based on the analysis of images of the retina.
