INESC TEC papers with the highest number of downloads
For the third year in a row, the papers titled “Operations research in healthcare: a survey” and “Understanding attitudes towards public transport and private car: A qualitative study,” written by researchers from INESC TEC’s Industrial Engineering and Management Unit (UGEI), are the most downloaded papers in the journals International Transactions in Operational Research and Transport Policy, respectively.
Written by current and former INESC TEC researchers Ana Viana and Abdur Rais, respectively, the paper “Operations research in healthcare: a survey” was downloaded 3455 times in 2013, 2057 times more than the paper in second place. The paper presents a survey of health related problems using operations research techniques. The main goal of the authors was to detect potential areas which had not been sufficiently explored. The paper was the basis for KEP – New Models for Enhancing the Kidney Transplantation Process, where the goal was to develop new methods to optimise the selection of donor/patient pairs for kidney transplants with living donors.
On the other hand, the paper “Understanding attitudes towards public transport and private car: A qualitative study” presents the results of a qualitative study on the users of public transportation and cars in order to understand their attitudes towards the different transportation systems and to explore their perception on the quality of public transport services. Other than being the most downloaded paper between 2011 and 2013, the work by Gabriela Beirão and José Sarsfield Cabral is the second most cited paper in the journal since 2007 (78 citations in Scopus, the largest database of scientific papers).
The INESC TEC researchers mentioned in this article are associated with the following partner institutions: FEUP and ISEP.
