Limelight
Every month, this section will honour a collaborator for an exceptional contribution in his/her area of activity. BIP’s Editors will have the final choice. However, the cooperation of every Centre Coordinator is precious since they will be the ones suggesting which collaborator should be distinguished.
Filipe Borges Teixeira, CTM - May
The coordinator of the Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) stated – "We would like to nominate the researcher Filipe Borges Teixeira for his outstanding work in organising the event ‘The Wireless Battle of the Mesh’ in Porto. This event was key to take the INESC TEC and University of Porto brands to the international scene. Moreover, Filipe has been playing a fundamental role in different CTM projects, and in April 2016, his performance in EEA Grants project BLUECOM+ (Connecting Humans and Systems at Remote Ocean Areas using Cost-effective Broadband Communications) was outstanding. As part of this project, Filipe has been successfully leading the development and testing activities for a solution that offers broadband Internet access in remote areas of the ocean. This solution is an alternative to the satellites used today."
Manuel Silva, SGI – May
The Manager of the Infrastructures Maintenance Service (SGI) stated – “Manuel Silva started working at SGI in February and soon he won the hearts of INESC TEC’s employees because he is very efficient and quickly responds to different requests. Moreover, he is very polite and always willing to find solutions to any problems that come his way in his work. He is an example of a worker who motivates his peers and I am absolutely certain that he is up for any challenge.”
Paula Viana (CTM), Jaime Dias (SAS) and Ana Rebelo (CTM) – June
The coordinator of the Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) stated – “We would like to nominate Paula Viana, Ana Rebelo and Jaime Dias for the Limelight section for their exemplar work in the organisation of CTM’s 5th Open Day. A large number of people participated in this event and the reach was outstanding. This has unquestionably contributed to strengthening the image of the Centre and to showcasing our professionalism at INESC TEC.”
André Silva (CPES) – June
The Coordinators of the Centre for Power and Energy Systems (CPES) – "André Silva is one of the most recent members of the CPES team and has been developing and programming modules for managing and controlling the power grid. He came in at a time when we had several ongoing projects and he soon proved to be autonomous and capable of working in teams, achieving high-quality results. It is important to stress that he has also been developing, testing and validating energy-related applications as part of the contract with EFACEC, where he shows his professionalism, besides working extra hours. He has also played a fundamental role in the European project evolvDSO, where we implemented two highly innovative functionalities whose value is broadly recognised by different distribution system operators. It is not common for us to have a researcher with this attitude and dedication in such a short amount of time, and that is why we are nominating him for the Limelight section."
Inês Castro, Accounting and Finance, July
Manager of the Accounting and Finance service stated – "Inês Castro has been working at INESC TEC for about a year and a half, and she immediately stood out for her autonomy and sense of responsibility in her tasks, especially now that she is replacing Magna Ribeiro, who is on maternity leave. She adapted very quickly to the Accounting and Finance service, and she is always available to help her colleagues. She is very dynamic and outgoing, which is perfect in such a young team. This is fundamental for us to be able to efficiently respond to the growing needs of INESC TEC. She is also concluding her master’s in accounting at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Porto, and that is, of course, an asset to INESC TEC’s Finance and Accounting service."
Ricardo Bessa, CPES - July
The Coordinators of the Centre for Power and Energy Systems (CPES) stated – "Ricardo Bessa was really busy in June, participating both in European projects and service provision contracts. In that same month, he organised the EES-UETP advanced training course, which was a success. His leadership skills (he is responsible for the Energy Analytics and Forecasting area at CPES) are outstanding. He was very much involved in European projects UPGRID and evolvDSO and service provision for REN and EDP Renováveis. He took on tasks with a great deal of responsibility, always with dedication and sense of initiative."
Pedro Silva, CTM – July
The coordinator of the Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) stated – "We would like to nominate Pedro Silva for his exceptional contribution in the European project SCREEN – Space Cognitive Radio for Electromagnetic Environment Management – where he has been developing a satellite communication network simulator that is very much appreciated by the partners and is extremely relevant to the success of the project."
