Serious Thinking

"Analytics can be defined in different ways. One of the most popular definitions considers that analytics is a scientific process of transforming data into knowledge to promote better decision-making.", Bernardo Almada Lobo, Board of Directors

At a time when several multidisciplinary projects are flourishing, involving different R&D centres, isn’t it nice working in projects together with colleagues we know from the football tournament, multicultural parties or rally papers?

INESC TEC always encourages activities that promote the conviviality and cooperation between R&D centres. At a time when several multidisciplinary projects are flourishing, involving different R&D centres, isn’t it nice working in projects together with colleagues we know from the football tournament, multicultural parties or rally papers?

INESC TEC’s Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) has been organising treks and other social activities, and was generous enough to invite some colleagues from the Centre for Power and Energy Systems (CPES) to go kart racing. They wanted to kick some butt, with fair play, of course.

Well, the race started, everyone was having fun, everyone was being respectful... But to tell you the truth CPES went a little too far: who do we see crossing the finish line of the race that was not supposed to be competitive? One of "them!" – but he crossed the finish line on foot, holding a wheel, what was left of the machine. The car? Long gone... but the grin on the guy is what stayed with us. The loss of the car, the outrage – that is what was left.

We fear that revenge is the only proper response to this insult. It’s like scoring a goal with our backs to the goalkeeper. When CPES invites them to go horseback riding, we believe that CTM will cross the finish line on foot while holding horseshoes on their hands...

Who’s laughing now, huh?!
