INESC TEC researcher wins Best Paper Application in international congress

António Pinto, a researcher of INESC TEC’s Centre for Research in Advanced Computing Systems (CRACS), in collaboration with Hélder Sousa, won the Best Paper Application award with the paper entitled "Blockchain Based Informed Consent with Reputation Support".

This award was given under the BLOCKCHAIN 2019 - International Congress on Blockchain and Applications event, which was held in Ávila, Spain between 26 and 28 June.

The authors of the paper developed a platform that uses the advantages of the Blockchain technology in order to help entities that collect personal data during the informed consent of the data subjects, as required by GDPR. The platform also facilitates the monitoring process by the regulator, always maintaining the control on the data subject side.

This was the first edition of an annual congress that intends to bring together blockchain and artificial intelligence researchers, aiming at sharing ideas, projects and advances associated with those technologies and their application. By identifying challenges and critical issues, these initiatives also intend to design research opportunities for the future, as well as to find new ways to develop the areas concerned.
