INESC TEC integrates jury to select the Best Doctoral Dissertation in Europe
Bernardo Almada-Lobo, member of INESC TEC’s Board, was the chair of the jury of the EURO Doctoral Dissertation Award (EDDA 2019), an award that highlights the best European Doctoral Dissertation in the Operations Research area.
Martina Fischetti (supervised by David Pisinger) was the winner with the dissertation entitled “Mathematical Programming Models and algorithms for Offshore Wind Park Design”.
In 2018, the same award was given to Margarida Carvalho, researcher of INESC TEC’s Centre for Industrial Engineering and Management (CEGI) at the time, under the scope of the PhD in Computer Sciences from the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (FCUP), entitled “Computation of equilibria on integer programming game”.
The EURO Doctoral Dissertation Award was presented in 2003 and recognises the contributions of PhD students or scientists with less than two years of experience in research since completing their PhD. A previously selected group of three finalists was invited to present their work at a special session on the conference programme of the EURO-K 2019 - 30th European Conference on Operational Research. The winner, determined by the jury at the end of this session, was announced by the chair of the jury during the closing of the Conference.
In addition to Bernardo Almado-Lobo, the jury was composed of Hande Yaman (Turkey), Yves Crama (Belgium), Mikhail Y. Kovalyov (Belarus) and Ivana Ljubic (France).
