"Here, the focus is on the quality of the analysis, rather than on the institute’s bottom line. (...) I am excited to be part of such an institution, where good work, problem solving, research and innovation are highly valued", Kristen Schell

"My favourite part of Porto is the famous francesinha, a dish I like to describe to my friends at home as the “soggy sandwich”, it is something that I will certainly try to introduce back in the UK. But above all I enjoy the relaxed atmosphere here in Portugal...", Jessica Dossena

César Toscano

César Toscano - November

“This month we nominate César Toscano to be in the “Limelight” in acknowledgment of the results of the Auto-gration project and the recognition from the other partners involved in the project. César Toscano joined INESC Porto in 1985 and since then he has achieved notable results in various projects including X-CITTIC, BMAN, Cooperate, CEC-Made-Shoe, eBiz-tcf, just to mention the most recent ones. He has made innovative contributions to INESC Porto’s image and to many of the projects mentioned”.

“Furthermore, in project Autog-ration (Assisting SMEs to participate in global digital supply chains in the automotive sector, www.auto-gration.eu, which began in January 2010) César Toscano was able, in a limited amount of time, to design and implement an innovative system that responded to the demands of the project. Even though INESC Porto does not have the leading role or budget with this project he was able to take on a central role that was fully recognised by the partners. Only with years of experience, motivation and real effort was he able to achieve these ambitious objectives”. (Manager of UESP)

Pedro e Joel

pedro almeida e fIlipe joel soares - december

“Doctorate students, Joel and Pedro, have always been deeply involved in many different projects, they have shown dedication and in particular we would like to highlight their contribution to the European project MERGE. They recently took part in a study assessing the levels of integration of renewable production in an African country. To meet contract deadlines many meetings went on until well into the night; nevertheless the high quality of the work produced never suffered”. (Manager of USE)

Ângelo Martins

ângelo Martins - January

“I would like to nominate Prof. Ângelo Martins to be put in the “Limelight” this month. Just this month two more projects were signed in the area of Ambient Assisted Living: CAALYX-MV (Market Validation), along with the European project CIP-PSP and AAL4ALL and project Mobilizador NSRF (The National Strategic Reference Framework) a key project in the Health Cluster Portugal, known as the health campus. This is all a result of his continuous hard work in the area of Ambient Assisted Living at USIG. Since taking on project CAALYX in 2007 Professor Ângelo Martins has really enhanced this area. His efforts paid off with the approval of the project in 2009 and with the approval of two further projects. This dynamic effort and attitude towards the development of a new area of activity must be highlighted and that is why I have put him forward”. (António Gaspar, one of the Managers of USIG)
