"I’m here today because I want to give you proof that tradition is not what it used to be. However, in this case I’m not referring to science and technology, but to sports and social traditions", Alfredo Martins (ROBIS)

Where are you now?

Every month INESC TEC sends highly qualified individuals into the market. These individuals often then go on to occupy important positions in some of the best national and international companies or they opt to form spin-offs. As the best way to perform technology transfer is through individuals, this section is dedicated to collaborators that trained at INESC TEC and now star in other companies and institutions.

Asdrúbal Costa

Asdrúbal Costa, Sony, Software Engineer (consultant)

INESC Porto: 2006 - 2009

INESC Porto Unit: Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM)

"After I left INESC Porto I decided to take on a different challenge and I started working as a testing manager for the software project division at the Porto Editora publisher, which is responsible for websites, such as Wook, Porto Editora, Areal Editores and Bertrand. After little over a year I came to the conclusion that even though I was at a position of greater responsibility and complexity, I wasn’t feeling particularly motivated.

Therefore, I decided to get back on the “right track" and I sought new challenges. Finding something interesting was much quicker than I thought it would be; after about a month and a half I was living in Brussels and working at Sony in an R&D project for a new range of Home Energy and Smart Grids products and services."

João Luís Pinto

João Luís Pinto, Efacec Engenharia e Sistemas, System Analyst/Programmer

INESC Porto: 1998 - 2006

INESC Porto Unit: Power Systems Unit (USE)

"After eight years working at INESC Porto, it was time, back in 2006, to break the cycle and see other realities. Those were eight years filled with people, new knowledge, new challenges.

However, the change was not too abrupt. After all, in 2007 I started working at one of INESC Porto’s long-time partners, Efacec Sistemas de Engenharia. I began working at their Automation Unit, in the Grid Management group. Together with INESC Porto, Efacec was involved in the development of Distribution Management System software, something I had worked on while at INESC Porto.

It was a different reality: I went from a more academic universe to a mainly industrial one. Furthermore, by my own will and due to the operational reality of my new workplace, I “migrated” from Power applications to a domain that was closer to Software Engineering."

André Rocha

André Rocha, Nokia Siemens Networks, Programme Manager

INESC Porto – 2003 – 2004

INESC Porto Unit: Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM), Audio Group

"After I left INESC Porto in January 2004, I started working at Siemens Information & Communications, in Portugal, a collaboration that lasted for nearly eight years, until December 2004.

More directly, INESC Porto gave me the opportunity to learn more about developing software using C/C++ language. I have benefited greatly from this experience, especially in the first tasks I performed at Siemens. Furthermore, it gave me the foundations to use a more structured and more academic approach to the problems that arise daily in industrial work environments".
