Workshop at PETROBRAS - INESC TEC goes to Rio de Janeiro

INESC TEC participated in the 2nd Workshop organised together with the Brazilian oil company PETROBRAS. The event took place on 24 and 25 April at the company’s facilities in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The programme of the meeting was divided into themes in which INESC TEC plays an active role, namely optolectronics, telecommunications, robotics and environment. At the event, the members representing INESC TEC had the opportunity not only to show their experience in these areas, but also to respond to a list of challenges, presenting ideas/technical solutions to problems identified by PETROBRAS. The aim was to identify future actions/projects which can be of interest to PETROBRAS and can be executed by INESC TEC in collaboration with partners working in these areas in Brazil. The aim with this collaboration is to promote technology transfer and research in Brazil.

This event took place following the visit of a delegation from PETROBRAS to INESC TEC last January. As part of this visit, the representatives of the oil company had the opportunity to identify common points of interest between the Portuguese institute and PETROBRAS and to discuss possible collaborations for the future. One of the results of this visit was the identification of 12 specific challenges to which INESC TEC provided a solution during the Workshop in Rio de Janeiro.

At this meeting, which took place at CENPES (PETROBRAS’s Research Centre), INESC TEC was represented by Vladimiro Miranda, a Director at INESC Porto (INESC TEC’s coordinating entity), Mauro Rosa from the Power Systems Unit (USE) and responsible for the Brazil Office, Eduardo Silva, António Paulo Moreira and Aníbal Matos from the Robotics and Intelligent Systems Unit (ROBIS), Pedro Jorge and Orlando Frazão, both from the Optoelectronics and Electronic Systems Unit (UOSE), and Luís Pessoa from the Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM).
