INESC TEC organises international workshop on immersive media

INESC TEC’s Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM) is organising the Immersive Media Experiences 2013, a workshop that will be taking place as part of the international conference “ACM Multimedia 2013”, in Barcelona, Spain, between 21 and 25 October.

The purpose of this international workshop (on 22 October) is to gather scientific papers on immersive media, an innovative area related to new digital media technologies, services and applications, namely on aspects related to perceptual and audio-visual immersion, multisensory interaction, customisation and participation in TV systems and audio-visual applications, new content formats, including 3D and multi-view systems, and even to social, emotional and affective aspects regarding this type of media.

Until 29 June 2013, students and researchers can submit papers on immersive media. The accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings of the ACM Multimedia 2013, and extended versions of some selected papers will be published in a special edition of the Springer’s journal Multimedia Tools and Applications Journal.

The organising committee included the University of Lisbon, the MIT Media Lab, the University of Texas at Austin and the BBC – British Broadcasting Company. Paula Viana, a researcher at UTM and lecturer at the Higher Institute of Engineering of Porto (ISEP), is the person in charge of organising the workshop, which is one of 13 workshops that will be taking place throughout the five days of the ACM Multimedia 2013, a leading multimedia conference in the world that is going on its 21st edition.
