INESC TEC welcomes research centre from Morocco

On 5 July, INESC TEC welcomed a delegation from the Institut de Recherce en Energie Solaire et en Energies Nouvelle (IRESEN) from Rabat, Morocco. The visit took place after the IRESEN showed interest in INESC TEC’s areas of expertise. The goal is for both institutions to collaborate in projects in the future.

While at INESC TEC, the delegation had an opportunity to visit the Laboratory of Microgrids and Electric Vehicles, some of the Institute’s Units, namely the Power Systems Unit (USE), the Information and Computer Graphics Systems Unit (USIG), the Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM) and the Robotics and Intelligent Systems Unit (ROBIS), as well as the model implemented in INESC P&D Brasil (INESC R&D Brazil).

Both institutions now have a joint project on smart grids which has already been pre-approved. According to Luís Seca, adviser to the manager of USE, it is possible that the two entities keep developing projects together, “opening new R&D lines with local universities”, he stated.

The IRESEN is an institution that functions on one hand as a funds manager, defining the research topics in energy and assessing projects proposed by companies and/or R&D centres, and on the other as a research centre that conducts research together with local universities so as to meet the country’s needs.

The INESC TEC researchers mentioned in this article are associated with the following partner institutions: FEUP and INESC Porto.
