Our mission, our purpose

FCT’s evaluation process of R&D units has produced a result that is consistent with the image that INESC TEC’s collaborators would like to have of themselves and their organisation: excellent.

With little comments, we transcribe below some of the conclusions of the evaluation report:

• INESC TEC has demonstrated to be one of the best research units evaluated by this panel (…)
• The Unit presents an excellent productivity in terms of research outputs (…)
• Of high importance are the knowledge and technology transfer activities (…)
• The degree of internationalization is very high as so is the degree of multidisciplinarity (…)
• The multidisciplinary approach is favored by the network structure (…)
• Their capacity to close the gap between basic research and application has been very much appreciated (…)
• There is an exceptional organization and management scheme (…)
• The unit has an excellent strategy for dissemination and technology transfer (…)

Even though it is with great joy that we receive these positive and accurate statements about INESC TEC’s model, it is important to balance that feeling with a sense of added responsibility for the upcoming years.

FCT’s acknowledgement and funding is instrumental, but more important is the coherence of our path: INESC TEC will maintain its strategy of diversifying income sources and a privileged relationship with industry. As stressed by the panel of judges,

• Activities are very likely to produce results that can be used in Portuguese industries and stimulate a knowledge-based economy.

This is, after all, our mission and our purpose.
