INESC TEC creates knowledge platform for the Galicia-North of Portugal Euroregion

INESC TEC’s Centre for Information Systems and Computer Graphics designed a webpage for the European group for cross-border cooperation between Galicia and the North of Portugal (GNP-AECT). Called Euroregion Information Office (GIE), the webpage contains information on the Euroregion.

Projects, events, theses, news, publications, products and services are just some of the examples of information that can be added to the new tool. "This is a sign of progress, particularly in terms of efficiency, because it prevents double spending on several areas of activity. This platform will clearly consolidate a true Euroregion", stated Emídio Gomes, president of the North Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR-N) during the presentation of the GIE.

It is expected that this collaborative platform (encompassing 44 Portuguese and Spanish institutions) facilitates the development and progress of the Euroregion, brings institutions closer together, and promotes the sharing of experiences and common problems. Furthermore, in the future the tool may bring several entities together to work in European projects. This system will show the Euroregion to the world, providing simple mechanisms to search for the information collected from the partners.

Other than designing the platform, the INESC TEC team, composed of CSIG researchers, Rui Barros and Paulo Melo, and José Carlos Sousa and Rúben Moreira of the Business Informatics Service (SIG), also provided technical support to connect the different partners (including municipalities, universities, polytechnics, institutes, technological centres, associations from different sectors, business associations and union structures).

The project was presented on 14 November, in Vigo, Spain, and formalised with the signing of the protocol between all partners and information providers, including INESC TEC, represented by the coordinator of CSIG, António Gaspar.

The INESC TEC researchers mentioned in this article are associated with the following partner institutions: INESC Porto.
