Limelight
Every month, this section will honour a collaborator for an exceptional contribution in his/her area of activity. BIP’s Editors will have the final choice. However, the cooperation of every Centre Coordinator is precious since they will be the ones suggesting which collaborator should be distinguished.
HENRIQUE TEIXEIRA, CPES - FEBRUARY
“Henrique Teixeira is a researcher at CPES [INESC TEC’s Centre for Power and Energy Systems] who has been developing and implementing algorithms to control and manage the power grid. Over the last few years, he became increasingly autonomous, and is always very committed and motivated in the projects he is involved in. This attitude was key to concluding various tasks as part of projects Sustainable, SCADA-BT and evolvDSO, which had significant activity peaks in early this year. Henrique played a fundamental role in these tasks. With this nomination for the Limelight section, we want to acknowledge a reliable and dedicated member of CPES."
ANA RITA RIBEIRO, CAP – MARCH
“Ana Rita is a PhD student doing her research at CAP [INESC TEC’s Centre for Applied Photonics] since 2013. Here, she is working in the area of cell micromanipulation with optical tongs.
Her team spirit, which peaked when she presided the Porto SPIE Chapter, her team leading skills, her proactiveness and initiative were fundamental to organising the ASCOS Summer School in 2015.
She is always very enthusiastic, dedicated and autonomous, and proof of that are the presentations she has been doing recently in world-renowned conferences. Because her work is so relevant, she was invited to submit a paper to the famous Journal of Ligthwave Technology.
Last February, she won best presentation at the Photonics West conference, which took place in San Francisco (one of the most important optical fibre conferences in the world, with approximately 25,000 participants), and this is reason enough for her to be featured in the Limelight section.”
MARGARIDA CARVALHO, CEGI – APRIL
“Margarida concluded her PhD a few weeks ago and she will now start her post-doc research at CEGI [INESC TEC’s Centre for Industrial Management and Engineering]. In March, Margarida published a paper in the Mathematical Programming journal – one of the most important journals in the area of optimisation. This is the first time since January 2003 that a researcher from the University of Porto has published in this international journal (the U.Porto has only kept these records in 2003). In fact, it is possible that no one at INESC TEC or U.Porto has ever published a paper in this prestigious journal.”
