INESC TEC researcher is judge in international IEEE competition

Ricardo Queirós, researcher at INESC TEC’s Center for Research in Advanced Computing Systems (CRACS), will integrate the team of eight judges of the IEEEmadC (Mobile Applications Development Contest), sponsored by the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers). The INESC TEC researcher is the only Portuguese in the group.

The IEEEmadC is an international competition where the goal is to encourage the development of mobile applications, and to help improve the participants’ social skills, as well as their ability to work in teams, making them more competitive in the labour market. The competition comprises three phases over five months (February to June): Idea, Development and Evaluation.

Within the competition, teams of up to three students are invited to design and develop mobile applications that can contribute to the engineering community or be used for the benefit of society. More than 110,000 students connected to the IEEE can participate in this competition.

Ricardo Queirós has a PhD in Computer Science, and besides being a researcher at INESC TEC, he also teaches at the Polytechnic Institute of Porto. Best known for his work in e-learning, Ricardo Queirós was part of the team that created the Enki, an integrated development environment based on games used in the IEEEXtreme competitions. He is the author of five books related to the development of Android, and has in his curriculum about 100 scientific publications related to the teaching of computer science. In the group of judges, Ricardo Queirós will be joined by Adam Porter (University of Maryland), Anoop Thomas Mathew (Profoundis), Faisal Abid (Google), Jeremy Blum (Pennsylvania State University), Mark Murphy (CommonsWare), Marko Gargenta (Silicon Valley) and Xun Luo (Tianjin University of Technology).
