INESC TEC project with PT Inovação/Altice Labs comes to an end
The OSSaaS (Operations Support Systems as a Service), a project promoted by PT Inovação/Altice Labs and INESC TEC, has come to an end in January 2016.
The goal with the OSSaaS was to migrate the OSS – a set of applications that help telecom operators to manage their own communications – to the cloud. This migration brings several advantages for businesses, in particular, a more efficient management of computing resources, allowing a gain in operational efficiency, greater control of their own resources, higher quality of service, and also greater responsiveness to business demands.
More specifically, this project allowed PT Inovação/Altice Labs to explore new business models and, consequently, to bring in more customers. Moreover, the adaptation of OSS solutions to the business processes of operators is more flexible, as they can customise the process.
The OSSaaS, which was the result of other projects with PT Inovação/Altice Labs, made it possible for the company to expand and refine the techniques, technologies and the knowledge required for migrating applications to the cloud. INESC TEC was represented in this project by the High Assurance Software Laboratory (HASLab). The HASLab team involved in the project was composed of researchers Rui Oliveira, Ricardo Vilaça, Miguel Matos, Roger Pontes and Catarina Gonçalves.
The OSSaaS also featured the Instituto Pedro Nunes (IPN) as partner.
