Associate Director of INESC TEC in parliamentary debate on Energy

João Peças Lopes, Associate Director of INESC TEC, was present in the parliamentary conference entitled “Baixa Tensão” (in English “Low Voltage”), promoted by the Committee on Economy, Innovation and Public Works, which was held on 15 January.

João Peças Lopes, who intervened in the first of two panels, talked about the technological disruption, believing that it requires a new regulatory environment. The researcher, who was accompanied by representatives of the Iberian Electricity Market and the Energy Services Regulatory Authority, raised concerns in relation to the legislation in force, namely in terms of the importance given to the so-called smart meters that he thinks “are a key element in the power grid of the future”.

The second panel was attended by elements of the National Associations of Portuguese Municipalities, EDP Distribuição, Cooperativas do Vale d’Este and A LORD.

After the presentations from specialists in the Energy area, a debate between the participants was held, followed by the opportunity of an exhibition by all the parliamentary groups that were present.

The debate was also attended by João Pedro Fernandes, Minister of Environment and Energy Transition and Hélder Amaral, Chairman of the Committee on Economy, Innovation and Public Works.

The researcher mentioned in this news piece is associated with UP-FEUP.
