INESC Porto strengthens cooperation with the Government of the State of Pará
In the context of the cooperation protocol with the Federal University of Pará (UFPA), INESC Porto has recently welcomed Carlos Renato Francês, president of the company PRODEPA (Data Processing for the State of Pará) and assistant professor at the Faculty of Computer Engineering of UFPA in Brazil. The aim with this meeting was to strengthen the existing partnership between the two institutions so that it is possible to exchange students and transfer technology in the future.
Carlos Renato Francês admits that he visited INESC Porto with a double interest: as manager of a technology authority in the State, and as a university researcher. “Considering INESC Porto’s proven competences in georeference-based systems and in the telecommunication areas, and considering that the Government of the State of Pará is currently working in digital inclusion and applied computing programmes, it makes perfect sense for us to seek further synergies”, the researcher added.
On 16 February, the president of PRODEPA attended a lecture together with researchers and coordinators of INESC Porto’s Units, Associated Laboratory Groups and Services, with the aim of discussing cooperation opportunities in areas of common interest.
Besides being president of PRODEPA and assistant professor at UFPA, Carlos Renato Francês, PhD in Computing Sciences and Computational Mathematics from the University of São Paulo, is also member of the computing advisory committee of the National Institute for Educational Studies and Research (INEP-MEC) of the Brazilian Ministry of Education.
The professor is also experienced in Computing Science and Telecommunications, with a strong emphasis on Performance Evaluation, working mainly in access technologies, Markovian performance and simulation models, correlation (Bayesian networks) and optimization techniques.
