UTM invited to participate in Eureka-CELTIC AWARE project

The Internet Architectures and Networking (IAN) area of the Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM) was invited to be part of the consortium for the project Eureka-CELTIC AWARE (Aggregation of WLAN Resources).

The main objective with AWARE is to allow telecom operators to benefit from private WLAN networks (for instance, residential wireless networks), taking not only access, but also the service into consideration. The AWARE consortium gathers telecom operators, SMEs, research institutes and universities, in a total of eight partners, in order to explore technical, economic and innovative aspects of network architectures and wireless technologies.

The invitation came from Alcatel-Lucent France in the sequence of an event organized by IAN at the ICT Networking 2008. The project will start in June 2009, with a total budget of 4 million Euros.
