"My story in Portugal begins on a sunny day in February 2011. I can still remember the last moments of that freaky flight from Tehran (Iran) to Lisbon. When the plane landed, I had no idea of what was awaiting me." Samaneh Khoshrou (UTM)

INESC TEC’s Multidisciplinary Work on ACM Computing Surveys

A team with researchers from three INESC TEC Units – the Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support (LIAAD), the Manufacturing Systems Engineering Unit (UESP) and the Unit of Industrial Management and Engineering (UGEI) – have conducted a study that was recently accepted for publication in the international journal, ACM Computing Surveys. The tile of the work is "Ensemble Approaches for Regression: a Survey" and once again it shows INESC TEC’s multidisciplinarity.

João Mendes Moreira and Alípio Jorge from LIAAD, Carlos Soares from UESP and Jorge Freire de Sousa from UGEI are the researchers involved in this study that looks at the use of various forecasting models instead of just one to predict learning problems with a numerical target variable (regression problems).

Over the last 20 years, there have been considerable developments in this area and this is the first study on ensemble learning for regression.

The ACM Computing Surveys journal currently publishes between 20 and 30 articles a year and covers all areas in Computer Science. It is considered the journal with the most impact in this area (ISI 2010) – 8.0. The article should be published in 2013.
