"I suggest developing and implementing a Circular Research methodology which guarantees that knowledge that tends to be forgotten is systematised and shared (...) If conversations are like cherries, which come one after the other, so should projects!", Samuel Moniz (CESE)

Free Nonsense

"As a foreigner, I have been very fortunate to work in INESC TEC for its friendly environment to international researchers (...). During my time here, I enjoy the strong industry oriented research atmosphere", Chen Wang (CTM)

Limelight

Limelight

In a universe with over 800 employees, there are many months when the performance of various collaborators should be highlighted. Proof of that is the fact that oftentimes more than one person is nominated each month. Because of that we had to change our editorial criteria: now, instead of featuring just one employee every month, BIP features all nominees.

Francisco Maia e João Paulo

Francisco Maia AND jOÃO PAULO (HASLab) | May

The coordinator of INESC TEC’s High-Assurance Software Laboratory (HASLab) stated: “João Paulo and Francisco Maia have recently concluded their PhD theses  and they will continue working at INESC TEC as postdoctoral researchers. In April, they have helped prepare several applications for H2020 projects, and their contribution was extraordinary, and throughout the entire month they were available to work on the different work stages. All this while they were preparing to submit their theses, and that is why they deserve to be featured in the Limelight section.

Tiago Soares Costa

Tiago Soares da Costa (CTM) | june

The coordinators of INESC TEC’s Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) stated: “We would like to nominate Tiago Costa to be featured in the Limelight section for his extraordinary work in projects of interest to CTM and for his performance, in May 2015, in  projects MAT (Media Arts Technology) and CNG (Next Generation Contents), for which he developed a demonstrator of a client-server system for adapted multi-view video streaming. Tiago is very autonomous, dedicated, and is always available to solve any existing problem. He has also been performing really well in other strategic projects in the field of Multimedia Systems, namely in the project PGlobal, developed with Público.

Ali

Ali Shocker (HASLab) | june

The coordinator of INESC TEC’s High-Assurance Software Laboratory (HASLab) stated: “Over the last two months, this researcher has been organising HASLab’s seminars, where the goal is to give more visibility to the ongoing research, promote synergies between researchers in the lab, and welcome lectures by external researchers who visit us regularly. More recently, this researcher has played a fundamental role in preparing a project proposal involving various departments from U.Minho and local organisations.”

Diogo Nogueira and Carla Carmelo Rosa, CAP (project EYEFRY) | July

The coordinators of INESC TEC’s Centre for Applied Photonics (CAP) stated: “The ‘demonstration effect’ and the various laws of Murphy have worked together in the cases of projects E-COAL and EYEFRY. The researchers now nominated to be featured in the Limelight section have been up to the challenge and have overcome several last-minute (and last-second…!) setbacks. Carla Rosa and Diogo Nogueira worked together to prepare the final demonstrator of project EYEFRY for the project’s closing ceremony.

Duarte Viveiros João Ferreira

João Ferreira and Duarte Viveiros, CAP (project E-COAL) | july

The coordinators of INESC TEC’s Centre for Applied Photonics (CAP) stated: “The ‘demonstration effect’ and the various laws of Murphy have worked together in the cases of projects E-COAL and EYEFRY. The researchers now nominated to be featured in the Limelight section have been up to the challenge and have overcome several last-minute (and last-second…!) setbacks. João Ferreira and Carlos Duarte Viveiros, who worked on E-COAL, prepared and demonstrated the system installed in S. Pedro da Cova, Portugal.”

Jorge Filipe

Jorge Filipe (CPES) | July

The coordinators of INESC TEC’s Centre for Power and Energy Systems (CPES) stated: “Over the last few months, more specifically in June, Jorge Filipe played a fundamental role in project PrevSol (funded by the National Strategic Reference Framework – NSRF) and in the European project SuSTAINABLE, where he was in charge of developing and demonstrating two solar power forecasting systems. Jorge Filipe always showed a tremendous dedication in the intense and demanding activities that came with the projects. He has also been playing a fundamental role in developing new optimisation tools to enhance hydropower plants as part of European project HYPERBOLE. The final results confirm the high quality of the work with demonstrations in real environment.”

Kelwin Fernandes

Kelwin Fernandes (CTM) | July

The coordinators of INESC TEC’s Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM) stated: We would like to nominate Kelwin Fernandes for his successful participation in various activities to promote science and technology: he participated in The Eureka Factor as part of INESC TEC’s 30th anniversary, he co-organised the VISUM summer school, he co-promoted a group at FEUP interested on computing vision, he had an excellent participation in a scientific competition on author identification, and he developed a prototype as part of CTM’s Researcher-Entrepreneur competition.”
