North-American researcher at INESC TEC to prepare Digitópia Collective concert

Neil Leonard, Artistic Director of the Interdisciplinary Arts Institute of the Berklee College of Music and Research Affiliate at MIT’s Art, Culture and Technology Program, is at INESC TEC to prepare the Digitópia Collective Concert – the Commemorative Concert of the 30th anniversary of INESC in Porto, which will take place at Casa da Música.

The North-American researcher is currently collaborating in the project “Bridging the gap between performers and the audience using networked smartphones”, whose result will be three music pieces to be presented at INESC TEC’s anniversary concert, on 26 October of this year. The audience will be participating in the even using their smartphones, providing an interesting environment between the audience and the performers.

Neil Leonard will also write one of the pieces to be presented at the Digitópia Collective concert, which will then be repeated in Boston, in March 2016.

Other than this piece, there will also be music pieces by Carlos Guedes and Rui Penha (both researchers at INESC TEC’s Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia, CTM), and José Alberto Gomes (Curator at Digitópia). The pieces will be interpreted by André Dias, Gilberto Bernardes (CTM - INESC TEC) and Digitópia Collective.

The INESC TEC researchers mentioned in this article are associated with the following partner institutions: UP-FEUP, IPP-ESMAE and INESC TEC.
