Where are you now?
Every month INESC TEC sends highly qualified individuals into the market. These individuals often then go on to occupy important positions in some of the best national and international companies or they opt to form spin-offs. As the best way to perform technology transfer is through individuals, this section is dedicated to collaborators that trained at INESC TEC and now star in other companies and institutions.

Explain your experience since leaving INESC TEC
After I concluded my PhD, I decided to start working at the quality laboratory of a company that manufactures electrical and communication cables (Cabelte SA). Because I had some experience in optical fibres, this seemed like a great opportunity to work in industry. At this company, I developed new skills in process optimisation, quality statistics studies, as well as the approval of products and audits to the product and quality system. However, I missed the research environment, and after three years I started working as a research fellow at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL). At INL I am working in the area of nanomedicine.
I started working at INESC TEC immediately after I concluded my degree, and it was where I grew up personally and professionally. Ever since I left I feel that the institution has grown sustainably and is now a nationally and internationally renowned institute.
Manuel Au-Yong OliveIra, Universidade de Aveiro, Professor Auxiliar
- Year when you began working at INESC TEC and when you left: 2010 - 2014
- Centres at INESC Porto where you worked: CITE
- Name(s) of the project(s) you were involved in: Spin-Up
Explain your experience since leaving INESC TEC
I left INESC TEC in April 2014 after working there for 4 years. I have learned a lot while working at the Centre for Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship. This coincided with the beginning of my doctoral studies at FEUP, with Professor João José Pinto Ferreira (also from INESC TEC, CITE) as my advisor. At CITE, I have also worked with Alexandra Xavier. There, I had the opportunity to grow professionally, more specifically due to my work in project Spin-Up, which allowed me not only to travel but also to become a better researcher.
I am currently teaching at the University of Aveiro, and right after I left INESC TEC I started publishing together with Professor João José Pinto Ferreira, in areas such as innovation and BNML (Business Narrative Modelling Language), a language that we have developed together.
INESC TEC is still growing and improving its competences. It is home to different cultures, and an example of how different nationalities and religions can get along and work together.
