Statement about the Project
CGI’s first project with INESC TEC was European project Inovgrid, which started in 2007. Inovgrid was a very important project that made it possible to equip the power grid with information and intelligent tools capable of managing energy automatically, significantly improving the quality of the service, reducing costs, and increasing energy efficiency and environmental sustainability. This project was extremely successful and had an impact at an international level.
CGI frequently collaborates with the partners of the Inovgrid consortium, which includes INESC TEC.
The goal with project REIVE (2010-2012), the result of another collaboration with INESC TEC, was to develop an innovative technological platform to manage and control the power grid with advanced interface devices for electric vehicles and microgeneration systems. The developments made it possible to define adequate technology solutions to promote a progressive and sustained change in the current mobility paradigm, as well as promote a progressive integration of microgeneration and renewable energy systems in the Portuguese electricity system.
Project REIVE involved extremely important partners in the national energy sector, such as REN, GALP and EFACEC. REIVE had a significant impact for INESC TEC, as the main result of this project was the “Laboratory of Smart Grids and Electric Vehicles”, a pioneer and unique technological infrastructure in Portugal, installed at INESC TEC.
The collaboration with INESC TEC is extremely important because it is strategic in the sense that it helps companies with market presence to reach an extremely competitive advantage through innovative components, putting them at the forefront of innovation. This collaboration also allows us to become international players and to export services, similarly to what happened with Inovgrid.
Other than these advantages, the collaboration with INESC TEC guarantees credibility due to the institute’s international visibility and consolidated areas of expertise.
In the future, we hope to work with INESC TEC again in new projects.
