Researcher from MASSIVE in the Executive Committee of Eurographics

Miguel Melo, researcher of the Centre for Information Systems and Computer Graphics (CSIG) was invited to be part of the Executive Committee of Eurographics, an European professional association for Computer Graphics.

The researcher will take the position of Assistant Secretary for a period of two years, after which he will be Secretary of an association that “supports the state-of-the-art in Computer Graphics and related areas such as Multimedia, Scientific Visualisation and Human-Computer Interfaces”. For Miguel Melo, the biggest challenge “will be to increase the visibility and influence of the (Portuguese) group within Eurographics and, consequently, in the ecosystem of computer graphics research at an European level”.

Miguel Melo, researcher of the MASSIVE Virtual Reality Laboratory, believes that “there is an increasing visibility of the works that are conducted in Portugal aiming at improving Computer Graphics, including Image Creation and Visualisation in order to face new challenges in areas such as Immersive Environments, Digital Games and User Experience”, like the works conducted at CSIG and at MASSIVE.

Luís Paulo Peixoto dos Santos, who is also a researcher of CSIG, is another Portuguese present at Eurographics and is currently managing the Portuguese Computer Graphics Group.

The researchers mentioned in this news piece are associated with INESC TEC, UTAD and UMinho.
