INESC TEC researchers ranked second place in Hackacity

Miguel Ramalho and António Almeida, researchers of INESC TEC's Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support (LIAAD) and Centre for Information Systems and Computer Graphics (CSIG), respectively, were part of the team that achieved second place at the Hackacity 2019 event, which was held on 3 April at the Alfândega Porto Congress Center. Henrique Vasconcelos, Miguel Lobo and Xavier Fontes were the other elements of that team.

With the participation of more than 30 teams, Hackacity is a one-day hackathon for researchers and enthusiasts in the data field, in which the goal is to play with the data of a city, in this case of Porto, and to come up with solutions that allow for improvements in the quality of life of the citizens.

This initiative, which was promoted by the Porto City Council and Porto Digital, was organised by Data Science Portugal and the Computer Science Department of the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto (DCC-FCUP). On DCC-FCUP’s part, the organisation of this event had the collaboration of two elements from LIAAD, namely Nuno Moniz and Rita Ribeiro, who also offered to mentor some of the teams. Arian Pasquali (LIAAD), João Vinagre (LIAAD) and Tiago Cunha (CESE - Centre for Enterprise Systems Engineering) were the other INESC TEC’s mentors.

Among other elements, the jury also had the participation of INESC TEC, through Alípio Jorge and Carlos Soares, Coordinator and collaborator of LIAAD, respectively.

The researchers mentioned in this news piece are associated with INESC TEC, UP-FEUP and UP-FCUP.
