INESC TEC participates in the Market of Open Innovation in Health

Within the framework of the TEC4Heath, INESC TEC participated in the fourth edition of the Market of Open Innovation in Health, which took place on 4 April at the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory (INL), in Braga, aiming at presenting some of its projects developed in the healthcare area. This edition of the Market of Open Innovation in Health, which took place in parallel with the edition “Meetings with Health Innovation”, was promoted by the Health Cluster Portugal (HCP), by the Portuguese National Innovation Agency (ANI) and by the Enterprise Europe Network (EEN), aiming at presenting the best in the R&D and Health Innovation fields in Portugal, gathering potential scientific, business, technological and clinical partners.

Health Market

INESC TEC, which was represented by the Centre for Information Systems and Computer Graphics (CSIG) and by the Centre for Biomedical Engineering Research (C-BER), presented two technologies in a demonstration session: WeSenSS and the PASSUS Mobile system.

WeSENSS is a spin-off of INESC TEC, which is currently completing its creation process, and which aims to develop new wearable devices. This technology allows for a real-time monitoring, by means of a web interface, of the individuals’ condition in terms of both the physical state (parameters related to stress, temperature, physical activity, among others) and the surrounding environment (temperature, humidity, toxic gases, particles, among others). Data collected from this technological solution can be transcribed for health reports, where feedback is sent back to users. WeSENSS has several applications in terms of management and team monitoring and it’s being applied in the monitoring of firefighters, helping in the management and decision support during risky situations.

On the other hand, and by introducing itself as a supervised physical exercise prescription platform for peripheral artery disease (PAD), the Passus Mobile system aims to assist patients with PAD through use of a usable interface, allowing the monitoring of exercise through the prescription and monitoring of plans adapted to each patient, while allowing the supervision by the healthcare professionals in the evolution of the physical capacity of their patients, through a web platform that allows the storage and visualisation of the traversed walks.

Among the various participants, some representatives of the José de Mello Group (in the picture, Salvador de Mello, also President of HCP) were present and questioned INESC TEC’s researchers about the functionalities and the future of the two presented projects.

Dennis Paulino and Hugo Paredes from CSIG, Susana Rodrigues and Erwan Spilmont from C-BER and Cristina Machado Guimarães from the Industry Partnership Service (SAPE) represented INESC TEC in the event.
