Researcher from LIAAD publishes new book

Luís Torgo, researcher from the Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support (LIAAD), published a new book on R programming entitled A Linguagem R, programação para a análise de dados (R language, programming data analysis).

R programming language is a dialect of the S language with which John Chambers won the prestigious ACM Software System Award in 1999. R is an open source project available for several operating systems (free of charge). R language is the most important programming language for data treatment and analysis.

This programming language has been registering an exponential growth over the last years and is now taught in the world’s most important universities. At the same time, this programming language already has a strong impact on the industry, as recently confirmed by analysts from Google, Pfizer, Merck and Bank of America, among others, in a New York Times article on R language.
