UT Austin | Portugal, U.Porto and INESC Porto organise ISDT 2009

In the context of the UT Austin | Portugal Programme, the University of Texas at Austin, the University of Porto and INESC Porto were responsible for the organisation of the first International School on Digital Transformation – ISDT 2009, which took place between 19 and 24 July ay the Rectory of U.Porto. The initiative welcomed national and international advanced and newly graduated students interested in how digital technologies are changing societies and the world in general. There were over 80 participants from several nationalities in the event (India, USA, United Kingdom, Italy, Finland, Mexico, Brazil, and others).

With a six-day intensive programme, the School included several sessions with numerous experts who were able to present projects, research work, also participating in debates principles for a sound development of the ongoing transformation were discussed.

INESC Porto was represented by Artur Pimenta Alves and Sónia Pinto in the organization, and by researchers Ademar Aguiar and Rui Barros, both from the Information and Communication Systems Unit (USIC). Rui Barros presented the guidelines of INESC Porto’s intervention in the introduction of digital technologies in municipal administration.

The participants considered that the International School was a tremendous success. The School worked as an informal venue for the sharing of experience, perspectives and best practices, promoting a sustainable network of scholars and professionals working in the field of digital technologies and communications and social changes.

After the success of the first edition, the intention is to make the International School on Digital Transformation an annual event.
