UTM participates in project for the distribution of audiovisual contents

The Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM) is participating the project  ImTV - OnDemand Immersive-TV for Communities of Media Producers and Consumers, recently approved by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) within the UTAustin-Portugal programme.

The aim with this project is to promote research on the definition of new models for the distribution and legal consumption of television and audiovisual contents. The two main results expected are a solid set of statistics on the consumption of audiovisual contents in Portugal and tools that allow a more transparent interaction between viewers, contents and producers. The results will be validated through the analysis of the impact that the proposed solutions will have on the media market, of the evaluation of the recommendation algorithms in international scientific forums, and of the assessment of the users’ degree of satisfaction.

The two-year duration project is coordinated by the Foundation for the Faculty of Science and Technology (FFCT/FCT/UNL), and it includes five partners other than INESC Porto, namely the Cooperativa de Profissionais de Imagem CRL (Duvideo), the Portuguese Foundation for Scientific Computing (FCCN), Rádio e Televisão de Portugal, SA (RTP), the University of Texas at Austin (UT-Austin) and ZON MULTIMÉDIA - Serviços de Telecomunicações e Multimédia, SGPS, S.A. (ZON). The project has a total financing of 225 thousand Euros and it started last September.
