Limelight
The Limelight Series
In a universe of over 700 employees, there are many months in which the performance of more than one collaborator is worthy of note in the “Limelight” section. Proof of that is that oftentimes we have more than one person nominated. For that reason, we decided to change the rules: as of edition No. 144, BIP will highlight all nominees each month, and all will be equal in merit.
Ricardo Campos (LIAAD) – November 2013
The Manager of INESC TEC’s Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support (LIAAD) stated: “Ricardo Campos concluded his PhD in 2013 at the Faculty of Science of the University of Porto (in Computer Science) and he won the Fraunhofer Portugal Challenge 2013 in the PhD category. He has been working at LIAAD since 2009 and he teaches at the Polytechnic Institute of Tomar. Ricardo is a tireless scientist and he always manages to find a balance between sizzling curiosity and pragmatic productivity.”
André Madureira (USE) - December 2013
The Manager of INESC TEC’s Power Systems Unit (USE) stated: "Over the years, André Madureira has shown an extreme dedication and skill in the elaboration of project applications and execution at the Power Systems Unit. Presently, other than being in charge of European project i-Tesla, André Madureira is involved in several other projects, such as Sustainable, evolvDSO and SCADA-BT, for which he has given important high quality contributions to define architectures, functionalities and operation strategies. Recently, he also played an important role in preparing an application to the CMU Portugal Program. In October and November, the combination of all these tasks required an exceptional dedication in terms of time and effort that should be noted."
Rui Barros (USIG) – December 2013
The Manager of INESC TEC’s Information and Computer Graphics Systems Unit stated: "Rui has been working tirelessly to prepare new service provision proposals and the results materialised in November, with several projects being awarded or approved. It’s the culmination of a negotiation effort which has lasted over a year and required several sprints at night and during many weekends. The accumulated value of these projects is over 1 M€, and for that reason alone he deserves to be nominated. However, this strategic effort also means that we have strengthened our partnerships with relevant entities in the region and with the companies associated with the projects. In times of crisis, Rui Barros is a role model: he never gave up and he achieved outstanding results. For that reason, he deserves to be nominated for this section.”
Lia Patrício (UGEI) - December 2013
The Manager of INESC TEC’s Management and Industrial Engineering Unit (UGEI) stated: “The Agile Marathon took place at FEUP on 25 and 26 October. Participants had 29 creative hours to develop an app for the Continente Online platform (...). A total of 22 teams participated in the Agile Marathon, including 135 students from several degrees at FEUP. During the competition, the students tested their skills by designing new concepts of services, prototyping and app developing. (...).Professor Lia is in charge of the Service Engineering Management area at UGEI and one of the people responsible for organising the Agile Marathon.”
Ricardo Bessa (USE) – January 2014
The Manager of INESC TEC’s Power Systems Unit (USE) stated: “Because he has recently concluded his PhD, Ricardo Bessa took on several responsibilities at USE in the forecasting area. However, his work goes way beyond those responsibilities and associated projects. In fact, he has been working not only on several European projects, such as the Sustainable and the evolvDSO, providing relevant contributions, but also on other contractual activities. In December, all this activity intensified because other researchers were unavailable, which required an extra effort, but Ricardo always managed to provide high quality contributions.”
Flávia Ferreira (ROBIS) – January 2014
The Managers of INESC TEC’s Robotics and Intelligent Systems Unit (ROBIS) stated: “Flávia Ferreira’s ability to integrate and adapt to her new conditions at ROBIS was truly remarkable. Everybody in ROBIS keep complimenting her efficiency, her sense of responsibility and her ability to interact with others.”
