INESC TEC researcher is the new president of ISMIR

Fabien Gouyon, a researcher at INESC TEC’s Telecommunications and Multimedia Unit (UTM) is the new President-Elect of The International Society for Music Information Retrieval (ISMIR) for 2014/2015. The researcher will hold this position until he becomes president of the association in 2016/2017.

As member of the board of the ISMIR, the main forum in the world on research on processing, research, organisation and accessing music related data, Fabien Gouyon will be responsible for encouraging and promoting research in the area, for promoting relations between academia and business and for ensuring the continuity of the annual conference.

The UTM researcher is connected to the ISMIR since the first annual conference of the Forum in 2000, having participated actively in all editions. He was also in charge of organising the 2012 edition, which took place in Porto. For the researcher, it is an “honour to actively contribute to this community”, he stated.

Fabien Gouyon is a member of UTM since 2007 and he conducts research on signal processing, pattern recognition, and human-machine interaction, which allows computers to better understand, model and generate sounds and music.
