"It is a privilege to be able to continue my relationship with INESC TEC as a post-doc at HASLab, not only because of the multidisciplinary nature of the INESC TEC universe, but also because it is known as a pipeline for technology transfer.", Miguel Matos (HASLab)

"Since I am not Portuguese I had to do a brief literature review (I hope the BIP editors are not very strict on these issues) to find out what an “asneira” is.", Edgar Jimenez (UESP)

INESC TEC organises international conference on virtual realities

INESC TEC’s Information and Computer Graphics Systems Unit (USIG) helped organise one of the most innovative international conferences on serious games and virtual realities.

SLACTIONS’2013 – Research conference on virtual worlds - Learning with simulations’ is a hybrid, virtual and physical conference that took place simultaneously in several countries, from 21 to 23 November 2013.

This is the 5th edition of the initiative which was founded and promoted by Leonel Morgado, researcher at USIG and professor at the Universidade Aberta. In this edition, Leonel Morgado was member of the Steering Committee. The INESC TEC team also included Paulo Martins (USIG and University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro), who was co-chair.

This year’s SLACTIONS focused on the use of simulations in learning and its importance for educational and professional development and, in the context of the conference, for virtual worlds and platforms. As part of this event, the participating researchers had the opportunity to present and discuss new developments in terms of simulations as a complement to scientific and technological education.

For the first time since the conference was inaugurated, the proceedings of SLACTIONS will be published by Elsevier’s Procedia Technology, indexed automatically by the ScienceDirect, Scopus, among others.

The INESC TEC researcher mentioned in this article is associated with the following partner institution: UTAD.
