INESC TEC co-organises and participates in international forum on the electricity sector

The President of INESC TEC, José Manuel Mendonça, directors João Peças Lopes and Vladimiro Miranda, and the coordinator of the Centre for Power and Energy Systems (CPES), Manuel Matos, as well as the researcher Carlos Moreira, participated in LABORA 2014, an international forum that took place in Cascais on 16 October.

The LABORA 2014 presented great challenges and opportunities facing the electric industry in technical, market and regulatory terms, which result from an increasing integration of electricity derived from renewable sources. These changes and the need for greater efficiency in the sector require solutions that include new management strategies to exploit assets and new materials.

In addition to the researchers at INESC TEC, who spoke at several sessions on topics such as the storage of electrical energy or offshore wind farms, the event featured international experts and representatives of EDP (Portuguese energy services provider).

INESC TEC also had a booth at the event to showcase the institution’s technological capacities which are of interest to the EDP Group. In particular, INESC TEC presented solutions developed at the Laboratory of Smart Grids and Electric Vehicles.

About 500 participants participated in this large event. The joint organisation between EDP Labelec and INESC TEC confirms and strengthens the strategic partnership that the EDP Group launched with INESC TEC by signing a Programme-Contract.

The INESC TEC researchers mentioned in this article are associated with the following partner institutions: INESC Porto and FEUP.
