INESC TEC launches project on probabilistic forecasting in special scheme
In September, INESC TEC’s Centre for Power and Energy Systems (CPES) started working on a project with REN (Portuguese Electricity Networks) to develop a probabilistic forecasting tool for power generation in special scheme.
The researchers involved will develop and implement statistical algorithms for probabilistic forecasting, mainly to predict uncertainty in wind power generation in Portugal, and then extend them to the rest of the national power generation in special scheme (PV, mini-hydro, thermal). This project is the result of the experience gained by INESC TEC in international projects such as the European project ANEMOS.plus, in collaboration with REN, and the ARGUS project, in collaboration with Argonne National Laboratory.
The final product will consist of a set of software modules which can be integrated in support tools to manage the electric power system.
With a duration of four months, the work with be developed by the following CPES researchers: Ricardo Bessa, Manuel Matos and Dewan Fayzur.
The INESC TEC researchers mentioned in this article are associated with the following partner institutions: INESC Porto and FEUP.
